As part of our 2018 school board candidate endorsement process, GO Public Schools Oakland Advocates asked each candidate to complete a questionnaire.
These questionnaires provide critical information about the school board candidates. The feedback we gathered from the questionnaires help inform our Leadership Council’s decision about whether and whom to endorse.
We have decided to make no endorsement in District 6. GO’s endorsement process involved nearly 100 community members participating in a candidate interview day, where we were able to hear from the candidates on a number of issues affecting our students and then provide feedback that was used for the endorsements. We heard from 2 candidates running for District 6 school board that day, and incumbent Shanthi Gonzales did not join the interview day. Since then, Director Gonzales is the only candidate who has qualified for the ballot and will face write-in challenger Anthony Wilson.
The 2018 OUSD School Board elections are just around the corner, and we’ve endorsed incumbent Director Aimee Eng for District 2 and Oakland education veteran Dr. Gary Yee for District 4.
While Director Eng is running unopposed, Dr. Yee will only have the opportunity to lead on behalf of our students if he is able to get elected on November 6th. He needs your help to do that. Here are 5 ways you can help!
Last month, we shared an enrollment resource with you all to help you begin to navigate your options and begin considering the best school choices for your family. As Oakland public school parents, you have the power of choice in determining what school is best for your child, and applying for that school (or schools).
We are thrilled to invite you to our very first GO Oakland Block Party on September 9! Come and celebrate the start of a new school year in our community.
