This past Sunday, August 5, GO hosted a critical event that comes around once every election cycle—school board candidate interviews. Nearly 100 Oaklanders, including parents, teachers, and community leaders, gathered in the GO offices, where they had a chance to meet and hear from candidates from Districts 2, 4, and 6. After getting to know these candidates, those in attendance were given the chance to weigh in on who GO should endorse.
Last month, we shared an enrollment resource with you all to help you begin to navigate your options and begin considering the best school choices for your family. As Oakland public school parents, you have the power of choice in determining what school is best for your child, and applying for that school (or schools).
The Oakland community unfortunately is not in an unfamiliar place: the search for a new superintendent. Over the last 50 years, Oakland Unified has seen 24 superintendents (check out this blog from Educate78 on OUSD Superintendents: Now and Then). We move forward together, and with that have a responsibility to Oakland students to ensure our School Board selects the best leader for Oakland students.
