Why public education?

Public education provided a pathway to the middle class for my mom, the first in her family to go to college and an immigrant from Panama and my father, who grew up on a farm in the mid-west. My brother and I considered college a given because of them.

Why Oakland?

In 1999 I moved to the Bay Area from my hometown of LA for a job and fell in love. I stayed to pursue a MA in Education and MBA at Stanford. I’ve been proud to call Oakland home for nearly ten years and made the move from SF because I care about diversity and working in the community where I raise my kids.

What are your vices?

Binge watching Friday Night Lights while on maternity leave with our youngest. As Coach would say, “Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose.”
