Why public education?
I am first generation college student to not only attend but graduate in my family. My parents were formally educated up until middle school and my work has always been about providing opportunities for individuals and families to have access to the power of education. It is what I have had the chance to experience through both the graduate and undergraduate level. One of the ways to transform our community is through education.
I love Oakland because it feels like home. I didn’t grow up here, but I feel a sense of community. I am passionate about the city, it’s politics, and it’s diversity. All those things drew me here, and are why I continue to stay. We live in such a diverse city, and the school I work at now is one of the few integrated schools.
What are your vices?
Mountain biking and beer, but at different times. That is my Yin and Yang.
